Preface
During the last 12 years the refractory and platinum group metals and their applications twelve times were subject of presentations in the Fachausschuss II of the Deutsche Glastechnische Gesellschaft (DGG). To summarise the use of metals in contact with glass melts and to document the state of the art the HVG-DGG Colloquium 2006, organised by the Hüttentechnische Vereinigung der Deutschen Glasindustrie (HVG), is dedicated to this topic. When preparing this colloquium as part of the glass technology live programme of the glasstec 2006, the idea arose to publish the papers in the HVG series ''Handbuch der Glastechnik''. The present handbook reflecting part of the work acchieved in the Fachausschuss II may help as reference when tackling the problems of daily glass production.
