Kurzbeschreibung
Foreword
The Technical Committee 2 (TC 2) of the international Commission on Glass (ICG) has contributed over the years to highlight severaI problems related to various topics of frequent occurrence, such as the quality of raw materials, the effec of elemental oxidation stages on glas colouration, the quantification and distribution of foreign elements in gIass cullet and many others.
The studies and intercomparison exercise which have necessitated to the development of the analytical procedures described here, were already published elsewhere. The aim of this publication is to provide the user with a very practical tool to be consulted either as a guide of as a reference, providing for each method essential data about reproducibility and detection limits which are of basic importance when analyses are carried out under quality control principles.
The methods seIected here are concerned with the anaIysis of trace elements in glas and in glassmaking raw materials. They are based an safe principles of wet analyticaI chemistry and are of strategic importance in a glass laboratory, for the very fact that they cannot be replaced by - but posibly integrated with - instrumental methods which are of increasingly wide use in routine analyses such as x-ray florescence (XRF) and/or inductively coupled plasma optic emission spectrometer (ICP OES).
