In the interior of glass furnaces, often temperatures of more than 1600 °C prevail.
In order to make photos and videos under these conditions, HVG has specific chilled endoscopes. Thus, combustion may be characterised and the state of the fireproof materials in the combustion chamber monitored. The picture shows a view into a side fired special glass furnace. One can see the back of the doghouse, the molten glass covered with batch up to the row of bubblers installed, among other things, to prevent the batch piles from flowing through, and the flames as well. The rapidly increasing corrosion at the glass level (surface of melt) can be noticed in the right half of the picture. At the proper angle of vision, the shining glass bath surface in the front part of the picture functions as a mirror reflecting the flame and a part of the sidewall.
